Dock-wall service vehicles are characterized by their flexibility, safety, and efficiency; they play a vital role in dry-dock operations, directly influencing dock productivity and the duration of repair cycles. Their deployment has enhanced the level of mechanization in ship repair. Equipped with this machinery, tasks such as high-pressure water cleaning can commence immediately after a vessel enters the dock-even before the water has been fully drained-thereby helping to shorten repair schedules.
Progress has been made in the domestic development of dock-wall service vehicles. A new type of vehicle specifically designed for floating docks, independently developed by Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (SSIC), has filled a gap in the domestic market; its electrical control system marks the first domestic application of this type of programmable logic controller. Additionally, a dock-wall service vehicle developed by the Ninth Design & Research Institute of CSSC boasts a maximum working reach of 50 meters.
The design of the new generation of dock-wall service vehicles prioritizes intelligence and stability. Intelligent features help improve operational efficiency and reduce reliance on manual labor, while stability-focused engineering ensures the equipment can handle the complex maintenance conditions typical of marine environments. Static analysis of key mechanisms using ANSYS software has provided the theoretical foundation for the equipment's safety design.
The use of dock-wall service vehicles helps boost efficiency and optimize costs across the global shipping industry. For instance, vehicles installed on large floating docks in the Bahamas are utilized for the maintenance of large luxury cruise ships.
